"Houston's Talking about 'The Talk'"

August 2006

What do you get when you put together 8 scripts, 8 directors, and 30 directors?  You get Shunya Theatre’s latest production, “The TALK”.  “The TALK” is a compilation of 8 short plays, which conquer a range of topics from love, sex and friendship to parents and children.

Shunya is branching out with this latest production.  The South Asian theatre troupe is no longer just for South Asian actors.  Diversity is the concept behind this production.  Not only are the characters from various backgrounds, so are the actors.  Another new aspect, for Shunya, with this production is the introduction of child actors.

This is Shunya’s most ambitious production to date.  It is full of drama, comedy, tragedy and everything good theatre is truly about.  Artistic Director of Shunya Theatre Soham Mehta says, “In Shunya's newest experiment, we opened our doors to even more voices and invited anyone to write a 10-15 minute piece about “The TALK”.  From the twenty short plays that we received, we selected eight that caught our fancy and paired them with eight directors and an army of actors.  Some are funny.  Some are tragic.  But they're all short and they're all about “The TALK” -- whatever that means to the voices that created them...”

With eight scripts by different writers and being directed by different directors, audiences are sure to be entertained with the variety this show offers.  Shunya promises to leave you with something to talk about.

“The Talk” will be performed Aug. 18-Aug. 27 at Diverse Works Art Space located at 1117 East Freeway.  Show timings are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm.To purchase tickets, log on to www.tickets2events.com or call (713) 412-8478.  For more information about Shunya Theatre log on to www.shunyatheatre.org.
